Undergraduate
Modeling-First Approach to Teaching Differential Equations
Author: Rosemary Farley, Dina Yagodich, Holly Zullo & BrianWinkel
Abstract
We cite broad support for using modeling in mathematics coursework in undergraduate studies and address the possibilities for doing so in the undergraduate differential equations course.
We describe one current support community, SIMIODE,that is dedicated to using modeling in differential equations courses.
Further, we give specific examples of use and narratives by several faculty who have engaged in a modeling approach to teach differential equations.
