Teaching Mathematical Modeling In a Sustainability Context
Author: N. Karjanto
Abstract
Within the tertiary education framework, we developed a pilot course focused on mathematical modeling, placing a distinct emphasis on sustainability and sustainable development. While an applicable textbook exists for this liberal arts course, we noticed that several key examples within it did not directly align with sustainability concerns. To address this gap, we carefully selected classroom examples that closely resonated with the context of sustainability. This approach fostered interdisciplinary collaboration among students, deepened their comprehension of the material, and equipped them with enhanced interdisciplinary skills.
