A UMAP Course Report

Author: Michael A. Penna

This is a report on a graduate course I taught during the summer of 1980 in which UMAP modules were the sole text. Although the course was designed for specific reasons, some general conclusions about the design of other applied mathematics courses based solely on UMAP materials can still be drawn. In particular, one of the great strengths of the UMAP program is that every instructor can tailor such a course to his or her own individual taste. It can take quite a bit of work to prepare and teach such a course, but the rewards are well worth it.
