Analysis of Supermarket Checkouts
Author: Alan Levine and Jay Waldman
Consider the following scenario. You go to the supermarket and select 11 items. Upon reaching the checkout area, you notice that the express line is for customers with 10 items or fewer, while the non-express lines are quite long. You have several options: -Return one item to the shelf and purchase it on your next trip. -Wait on the non-express line. -Pray that the checker on the express line cannot count or be prepared to argue that peanut butter and jelly are really just one item.
