Strategy for Hiring a Secretary

Author: Harris S. Shultz and Bill Leonard

An employer is seeking a new secretary. Under a rather rigid hiring procedure, the employer is allowed to interview n candidates one at a time and decide, at the conclusion of each interview, whether or not to hire that applicant. If the employer decides not to hire a given interviewee, there will not be another opportunity at which to do so. How can the employer maximize the probability of choosing the best secretary?
